ALBUM LYRICS

SOMEONE

Someone
Seems a little blue
Someone
Who looks a lot like you
Someone
maybe you agree
Someone needs someone like me
Someone
Someone you might know
And it’s not some famous person
on the radio
Someone
Who holds the key
Someone needs someone like me
Underneath your window day by day
Waiting for you to finally look my way
I’ll wait in Frisco or San Antonio
But one thing I can’t do
Is let you go
Someone
Always moving slow
And it’s not some rowdy cowboy
From the rodeo
Someone
Humble as can be
Someone needs someone
Like me
Not to put the cart before the horse
Waiting for your life to run it’s course
I shall wait in the rain and sleet and snow
One thing I can’t do
One thing I can’t do
Is let you go
Someone
Seems a little shy
Maybe someone thinks that love has passed them by
Someone
For eternity
Someone needs

Someone like me

15 MINUTES

All their dads loved Ronald Reagan
So they bought their wives and girlfriends rings
Throwing money round like a pagan
All the pleasure that larceny brings
All the pleasure that larceny brings
Just greed and blow and oh the of kings
He just be playing the game
Midlife Daddy bought himself a Harley
Ear rings gold chain round his neck
Came to Jesus when things got gnarly
Forgot to sign his alimony check
Forgot to sign his alimony check
Forgot to sign his alimony check
Just chasing that spark trying to reconnect
He just be playing the game
Oh must have been something in the water
Make em think like that
Must have been something in the water
In the habitat
Something in the water mad em think the earth was flat
Daddy couldn’t solve a simple mystery
So he closed his eyes and made up stuff
Living his revisionist history
He bought a gun and acted tough
And dared someone to finally call his bluff
He just be playing the game
And never feeling no shame
Oh must have been something in the water in the neighborhood
Must have been something in the water like from Hollywood
Something in the water made em think that greed was good
Daddy never known for his precision
Barley knew the kids that bore his name
But who among us never made a poor decision
Poor Daddy got all the blame
Poor Daddy got all the blame
Just trying to find his fifteen minutes of fame
He just be playing that game

THE CAR

Back on earth sitting in a beat up car
Half a million miles didn’t seem so far
Steering wheel held by a callused hand
Half a million more to the promised land
Golden eagle perched there up on the hood
Beacon for the righteous and the good
And the misunderstood
Raindrops spatter on the old windshield
Sitting out there rusting in an open field
Rest stop a place to shed a few more tears
restless heart returns seeking new frontiers
Spirits in the forest seem to moan
Saying seek your freedom in the twilight zone
And the great unknown
There lies that shimmering road
Once she went for broke like a shooting star
Now she’s asleep in this beat up car
Went across the land from sea to shining sea
Never felt the pull of gravity
Parts of this machine on the road behind
Still the dashboard has the glow and shine
of a beautiful mind
There lies that shimmering road
That golden shimmering road
Where the angels share the load
At the line she stood all muscle and chrome
that beloved car always bringing you home
probably didn’t treat her right from time to time
she just purred along even past her prime
where and when her license is denied
she’ll always have the eternal flame inside
what a wonderful ride
There lies that shimmering road
That golden shimmering road

TIME TRAVEL

A Time Traveler’s life
Sometimes gets caught
But who wouldn’t be if they could
A true astronaut ?
And every time I see that photo
With your arms so free
Fingers twiring your hair
A certain light shines on your face
And oh!
How could you know…
Wish I could have been there
A Time Traveler’s code
Have no regrets
But hard time dealing with a mind
That never forgets
And every time I see that photo
With your arms so free
Fingers twiring your hair
A certain light shines on your face
And oh!
How could you know…
Wish I could have been there
As the Lucid Dreamer saw
You there in your little car
Feeling salt and freedom in the air
All along the endless coast
Always seeking Love beyond the horizon
With your beads and incense going nowhere
To nowhere
A time Traveler’s soul
Is like all the rest
Except for all that back and forth
Upon request

And every time I see that photo
With your arms so free
Fingers twiring your hair
A certain light shines on your face
And oh!
How could you know?
How could we know?
So young!
Wish I could have been there

VIRTUE

Met a friend under skies of grey
Asking my advice
Normally I would shy away
Never think twice
But then I thought
Maybe just a word or two
Something in return
So I try to demystify
Lessons that I..
Lessons that I..
Hard lessons that I learned
So I said
Jealousy has no place
In this world or even in outer space
Take a breath
And slow your pace
Ease those worry lines
From your face
Never are too old
Never are too young
And then there’s
Holding the grudge
It has as no place
in this world
Or in the human race
Waste your life
Lose your grace
Feel those tears
Steaming down your face
Never are too old
Never are too young
Looking back at your footprints in the sand
Children at your heels
Reaching for your hand
Sit them your knee
Look in their eyes what do they see
They’re asking “momma, daddy what’s my destiny?”

Oh and
Little lies
Swirl around
Seep into your head
Without a sound
Tie you up gagged and bound
Til the things you once believed in
Can’t be found
Never are too old
Never are too young
Everyone needs to be told
Now and then
Look behind your footprints in the dirt
Make amends to all the ones you’ve hurt
Take the bended knee
‘til everyone’s free nobody’s free
And you’re asking what’s my destiny?”
Finally
Breaking hearts
A mortal sin
Don’t know even where
To begin
Start by wiping off that grin
Take your hands off of the throat of the truth
Trying to make it spin
Never are too old
Never are too young
Everyone needs to be told
Now and then
And in conclusion
Breaking hearts
A mortal sin
Please don’t ever do that again

NOT FREE ENOUGH

Marched up to the boundary
Whereupon the searchlight probes
There were immigrants in sandals
Mothers wrapped in their robes
And they’re looking for the stairway
To get up over the bluff
I’m feeling free
Just not free enough
Time turned me to water
Time has stolen my shape
So I leave my impression
On indelible tape
And we roll with the attrition
When the going gets rough
Oh I’m feeling free
Just not free enough
The full measure is taken
When the autumn winds blow
It’s a season of wisdom
When there’s something worthy to know
But some words go missing
And others fly off the cuff
I’m feeling free
Just not free enough
I was born with an impulse
Born to beat on the drums
I was gifted with fingers
Blessed with opposable thumbs
But I’m still digging for the treasure
Through endless layers of stuff
I’m feeling free
Just not free enough

HOME TONIGHT

Home tonight
Pilgrim coming round the bend
Finding love would be a journey’s end
For me
Home tonight
Running out of words to say
Home is more than just a place to stay
To me
As I roam beneath the midnight sky
It comforts me
I will always be the roamer
Longing for your company
Home tonight
Sights and sounds
familiar feel
Touching you
Will always make it real
To me
We are all within the river
Bearing us along
Sometimes it may feel like drowning
Sometimes in love with the river song
Home tonight
Always running late, you see
Trust that you will always leave a light
For me

TENDER HEART

Come on come on
you must be strong for me
My tender heart
Come on
you know that you belong with me
My tender heart
And the ties that bind us
Running deeper than the ocean floor
And not only in this life
But so many more
I know the nights can be long for you
My tender heart
Come on
You know there’s nothing wrong with you
My tender heart
Oh your thoughts are like swirling leaves
In a passing storm
But you know it’s down to you and me
To keep one another warm
You know your voice is like a symphony
My tender heart
Come on
You know it’s tie to set her free
My tender heart
And once I heard an angel sing
And I nearly cried
For it’s something we may never hear again
Til we’re on the other side
Maybe we’re just mortal fools
To try and try
Maybe it’s just a longing for the days gone by
Maybe it’s all a dream like the poets say
Oh maybe oh maybe
Our love will show the way
Come on you know you lit a fire in me
My tender heart
Come on you know that you inspire me
My tender heart

I hear your words of the grace reigning down
From the azure skies
And I only aspire to see the world
Through your Mystic Eyes
Come on come on
you must be strong for me!
My tender heart

FIREFLY

Like a fire fly kept within a jar
Wondering why you have the gift of flight
Ever buzzing endlessly around
Just to give another traveler light
Then came the day
Someone left the lid off of the jar
Who, we’ll never know
And then you see
everything as from afar
and off you go
Sometime back a prophecy was told
Of the next one thousand years or so
Wondering where you stand in all of this
When to ebb and when to flow
And now you see
What once seemed to be a curse
Turns out not so
For we are living in a parallel universe
And off you go

A firefly floating next to you
Has the same uneasy thought
What if we are tumbling dice
In a jar so easy caught
In a place of shortened time where
Incandescence surely is a thief
All The deep and best words tossed about
Where attention is so brief
But somehow time
Nothing but a silken thread
Stretching to and fro
Past careless deeds
And signs predicting dread
And off you go

A firefly floating next to you
Has the same uneasy thought
What if we’re like flowers in the market place
Pretty colors
But easily bought

In the age of spiraling decline
through the long night of the despot kings
Learn to work the elegant design
Using sonar, love and wings
And now the past
A reflection nothing more
Someone you used to know
And through the glass
and the symbol of the open door
And off you go
